He is specially loved for his role as Wolverine in the X- Men film series. His role as wolverine has got him many followers and fans around the globe. His work in Les Misérables earned him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and his first Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy in 2013. Hugh Jackman Workout Routine
Let us see Jackman’s workout routine for his upcoming movie ” Wolverine ” . He looks all metal strong with a proper chiseled out body in the trailers. Steve Ramsbottom is the man behind the Jackman’s great body and success as Wolverine. His workout schedule is divided into 3 parts.
- Mass Building.
- Weight / Strength Training.
- Maintenance of the body acquired by him.
MASS BUILDING : This is based for gaining mass by changing the speed of each round by some seconds. For instance, mass gaining can include fast running for five minutes followed by slow running . This helps his muscles to expand and help him gain some mass. There can be many rounds which may have different exercises.
WEIGHT/STRENGTH TRAINING : This part includes picking up some heavy weights which are quite obvious if you see his biceps and triceps in the trailer. He has gone through some vigorous workout schedule to give himself a solid metal look for the movie. In an interview with Men’s Health, Jackman said
” I would change it up every 3 weeks. Three weeks heavy with lots of rest between sets. Then change to lighter weight, slower reps, four count up, four count down. Then mix in fast, explosive lifting, always changing the workout.”
This routine was followed bu our wolverine for around 3 months after which he decided to move to the last phase that was to maintain the body which he had chiseled out by the hard workout sessions. He maintained his body by some regular weight lifting , running , yoga and stretching exercises. This 43 year old has developed so much strength that he could Bench Press 315 pounds and leg press 1000 pounds.
For each exercise in the first phase he used the rep structure below.
Set 1 8 reps (120 secs rest)
Set 2 6 reps (120 secs rest)
Set 3 4 reps (120 secs rest)
Bonus set 1 rep max with a spotter
In the next phase he maintained his body by regular workout but less intense than in first phase. He even dropped the intake of 6000kcal to 3500kcal. He rep structure for this part is below.

To maintain such a body Jackman has to keep up with a special diet routine as well. He was voted as the ” Sexiest man alive ” in 2008 , all thanks to his athletic body , strong physique which makes him a lady’s man. Now he is on special diet for his next awaited movie ” Wolverine “. - Jackman says, in an interview, that he wake up early in the morning at 4 am and eat 4 egg whites.
- After every 3 hours, he takes combination of protein / streamed vegetables and brown rice.
- He takes protein generally in the form of protein shakes.
- After midday, Jackman does not eat rice or carbohydrates. He only stresses on vegetables (like broccoli, cauliflower, etc.), meat, fish, chicken breasts, steaks.
- Before bed, he used to have protein smoothie.
